When I was younger I became inspired to pursue photography because one of my brothers converted the bathroom into a darkroom in the basement of our family home.   I thought it was one of the coolest things ever.  This was the 1980s before the world went digital.  Photography was by no means a fast process especially by todays standards but it sure was fun pulling it all together.

There were little black plastic canisters that stored 35mm film everywhere.  White boxes of photographic paper were kept tightly sealed.  Dark brown bottles of chemicals lined the closet shelves under the stairs.  Developer, stop bath, and fixer each had designated trays.  Photography was a marriage of science and art.  It was a lot of work, and a lot of trial and error to get that perfect image but it really was magical.  Back then was a simpler time and yet in retrospect it was also a more complicated time. Even though reminiscing on how amazing that moment is when an image materializes, I wonder if I would have the patience for it now.  It sure was nice holding a glossy 8x10 though.  It was tangible.  Everything felt more tangible then.

When I started college I dabbled in photography and absolutely loved it.  This was the 90's.  The process was still soul fulfilling.  Getting an assignment.  Scouting for a shot.  Hoping it made it on film.  Transporting it all back to the darkroom at UDC.  Still magical.  Alas, in the 90's there were a lot of other soul fulfilling endeavours that I discovered and I didn't pursue the photographer's path professionally.  I did gain an appreciation for composition and light and color and managed to keep taking pictures as technology advanced.  Enter the collection I am publishing here.

Here in 2020 hindsight is both ironic and perfect.  I have come to understand as I have gotten older how important each moment is and I'm content that I didn't miss every moment.  In fact, from my perspective, I found quite a few lovely ones to share.  Enjoy :)
